Please keep my life You give, O God, alive,
For You’re my refuge that ever endures.
I say, “You are the Lord of all my life
Apart from You there’s nothing pure.”
I smile to see the saints upon the earth,
The champions who fill me with delight,
But those who chase the idols without worth,
Receive much sorrow, gasping without might.
How dare I cross into those wicked shrines
To drip their names or blood on lips or hand,
For You alone, Lord, are my Bread and Wine,
My great foundation where my feet shall stand!
The boundaries He set for me give peace;
This heritage has given rest and ease.
I raise my hands to praise my Lord, my Guide,
Who leads and teaches me by day and night.
I fix my eyes, my face, my every stride
On He who stands beside my left and right,
Who holds me close so I cannot be moved.
Therefore, my heart, my lips may long rejoice
In He whose arms I rest and who has proved
That He is strong in heart and strong in voice.
No, God, my Friend will not abandon me,
Nor will He let His Chosen One decay.
His children, yes, that’s you and me, will see
Revealed the path of life that God has paved.
“Come, fill me with Your joys that You have stored —
The joys of dwelling with You evermore!”
